Dental Campaigns
Since 1992, dentists from all over the United States as well as in Mexico have helped provide care for patients in Atoyac de Alvarez as well as in the surrounding villages up in the mountains surrounding Clinica Betel. Basic services include dental examinations including digital radiography along with fillings, extractions, root canal therapy and dental cleanings. In addition, crown and bridge restorations along with removable partial and complete dentures are also provided on a limited basis. In January of each year, more complex procedures for patients requiring general anesthesia and the operating room are accomplished as well.
Since 1998, senior students from LSU School of Dentistry have participated in a week long campaign providing them with a unique opportunity to provide much needed dental care, but also have an invaluable learning experience at their disposal during this week. A number of pre-dental college students along with volunteer dental assistants and dental hygienists have also accompanied these groups for what usually amounts to a very busy and strenuous week for all.
